How to remove 'Adobe Flash Player' is out of date' from Mac?
What is 'Adobe Flash Player' is out of date'?
When visited, this deceptive website displays a pop-up window suggesting that the version of installed Adobe Flash Player is out of date and encouraging to download, and install the latest one. At the time of the research this page downloaded an installer of two applications: Media Player and MyCouponsmart. Like most websites of this type, this page is designed to trick people into installing potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). In most cases they distribute PUAs like browser hijackers, adware. However, it is possible that a website of this type may be used to trick visitors into installing some Trojan, ransomware or other high-risk malware.
According to this website, installed Adobe Flash Player does not include the latest security updates and cannot be used unless it is updated. It is designed to download a file named 'Adobe Flash Player.dmg' which supposed to be designed to install the latest Adobe Flash Player. However, instead of installing legitimate software it installs Media Player and MyCouponsmart. MyCouponsmart is a type of software that is categorized as adware. It is designed to serve intrusive ads (like coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and so on). The problem with such ads is that they conceal contents of visited pages and, if clicked, open potentially malicious pages or download and/or install unwanted software. Also, adware can be designed to gather browsing-related information such as IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited pages, entered search queries, and other browsing data. In some cases software of this type can be designed to collect sensitive details as well. Quite often people behind such apps misuse gathered data to generate revenue or sell it to third parties (potentially cyber criminals). There is a high possibility that another app that is included in this fake Adobe Flash Player installer operated as adware too. In some cases fake installers are used to infect systems with malware like a Trojan, ransomware, or other malicious software. People who have their computers infected with programs of this kind usually experience data, financial loss, problems with browsing safety, privacy, become victims of identity theft, and so on. Therefore, software should never be downloaded from scam websites like this one.

More examples of similar scam websites are operatedevelopeduberprogram[.]icu, operateuberrefinedprogram[.]icu and mainspotupdatesfreenew[.]info. Typically, they are designed to deceive visitors into using fake Adobe Flash Player installers by suggesting that the installed version of this software is out of date. Those installers never install the actual Adobe Flash Player. They install either some potentially unwanted app (or apps), or some malicious software. It is worth mentioning that websites of this type often get opened by PUAs that are already installed on browsers and/or operating systems.
How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?
Most of the times people download and/or install potentially unwanted applications accidentally (unintentionally). It usually happens when they are included in download and/or installation setups of some other, mainly free software. Usually information about additional downloads and/or installations can be found in setup's settings like 'Custom', 'Advanced', 'Manual', etc. When some software is downloaded and/or installed without checking and changing any of these settings, then PUAs get permission to be downloaded and installed too. This distribution method of various PUAs is known as 'bundling'. Developers user to trick people into downloading and/or installing unwanted apps together with other, desired software. In other cases PUAs can be downloaded and/or installed by clicking deceptive ads that are designed to run certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Unwanted downloads and installations can be avoided by downloading software only from official websites, and not through third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), questionable websites, or other similar channels. Also, it can be done by checking 'Custom', 'Advanced' and other similar settings of any download or installation setup and dismissing offers to download and/or install additionally included software. Furthermore, we recommend not to click intrusive ads that appear on shady pages. They often are designed to cause redirects to untrustworthy (and potentially malicious) websites or downloads, installations of various PUAs. If some unwanted, suspicious application (extension, plug-in, and/or add-on) is already installed on a browser, then it should be removed as soon as possible. The same should be done with software that is installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan withCombo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
