Time to resurrect a dead thread I found because of google.
At this time I'm going through a rough stage. I have a lot of friends who play League of Legends and a few of them are co-workers. This has gotten me to attempt to get back into playing League. One reason LoL lost my interest is because I got so tired of playing with randoms and didn't feel like committing myself enough to find a group of experienced people to play and practice with.
Then along came Smite and I tried it after it was in beta for months. Greatly enjoyed it. I kept comparing it to LoL in a lot of ways. The things I feel I like more about Smite than LoL are as follows:
Third Person View: This is quite possibly the number one reason I prefer Smite. I never really liked how in a lot of MOBAs like DOTA and LoL you had birds eye view and could see people coming up behind you the moment they came out of the Fog of War. Third person makes Smite feel more immersive to me, and it makes roaming in jungle and ganking a lot more entertaining IMO. I prefer glass cannon mages in MOBAs, and even I enjoy the idea of not being able to see behind me and feeling more worried about over extending.
Skill shots: This is also a big deal to me. I dislike how in League and DOTA there are so many skills where you prepare it, and click on an enemy when they get within range and your skill always hits, even your basic attacks will home in on the target and follow them even through a flash. I've been playing LoL again for about a week and this morning played 2 matches on Smite and constantly got addicted to Smite again after having fights with ADC and other casters where we were dodging each others basic attacks and spells and realized how much more fun I found it. Yes you can dodge some abilities in LoL and I've seen friends have very laughable and memorable experiences dodging and laughing on skype over it, but in Smite it happens much more often.
Runes & Masteries: The meta game of any game is very important to me. Infact it's usually what consumes me the most, I spend more time in games thinking about my meta game and changing it up than I do actually playing. It's extremely gratifying to me. However in LoL when I was a lower level I made the mistake of buying a lot of the runes that I no longer want, and wanting to try new roles I find myself having to grind to buy the runes I want... playing grouped with ranked level 30's, I feel at a large disadvantage because not only do I have less experience, but they have effect rune/mastery set ups that I lack and there's nothing I can do but grind through it until I can have the same advantage. Not a big fan of that. With Smite I don't have to worry about such things, the moment I have a god unlocked I can play it and not be concerned about being at any disadvantage other than experience (which is how I prefer all my games to be, Skill > Grinding). Note, that I'm not saying skill can't overcome the disadvantage of improper runes/masteries.
Movement: As a long time FPS player using WASD feels a lot more at home than clicking to move around. I find clicking so much to be pretty tedious and annoying, but strafing around with WASD is something I'm very used to.
Having all the gods unlocked: Yes. Huge thing to me. I enjoyed myself so much with Smite that I wanted it to succeed and could see myself playing it for awhile longer. Decided to get the god pack so I had all the gods and future ones unlocked. The one thing I liked more about DOTA 2 than LoL was the fact that I had all champions available to me, without having to grind or spend money. Plus in Smite, even if you didn't get the god pack at least you can jump into practice matches and try out gods you're interested in before buying them. While with LoL I had to wait until they were on free rotation to try them.
I've been considering that maybe Smite is more noob friendly, but the fact that it's third person view AND everything is skill shots it makes me feel like it would be a false statement. You have to be even more aware of your surroundings and every attack you do needs to be well aimed and timed. Hitting moving targets, strafing and such becomes a bit more difficult when you have to consider how fast your spell moves and where they're moving, which can change easily. Compared to clicking on an enemy when they're in range and having the skill home in on the enemy more often.
I feel like it would be easier in the sense that Smite is a newer game so people playing it don't have several years of experience at doing so, and therefor know the best hard counters to what the enemies champs, reactions and builds. Which is also a selling point for me. If I had been a LoL player for years now I'd probably stick with LoL because I'm so used to it and understand everything well enough to compete, however grinding at LoL at this stage seems pointless after how long it's been released. I can still get better, but grouping with a few experienced players and getting stuck against guys who have 1000+ more matches under their belt? Meh... That's rough.
There's my opinion as someone who's been playing both, but has come to prefer Smite. Knowing that LoL and DOTA have such a strong fan base makes me think that Smite could have a hard time, but seeing as it's also so different from the two I hope that it can gather enough players to keep it successful and running.
League Smite Q Does More Dmg 2
What Top champion do you think has the best burst? I know assassins and mages are typically the bursters but I like to play a tankier roll, I do however like to be able to hit hard and do good chunk damage. Let's say my first q is 100 damage, lets say my second is 150, lets say my smite is 800, I also have the optional E to do another 100. That means I have a 1050 or 1150 smite, I just need to find a way in, and to use the combo as fast as humanly possible.
